NF-1C1 1846 Newfoundland Rutherford Bros. Harbour Grace Token Almost Uncirculated (AU-50)
In 1840, George, Andrew, Robert, and I.S. Rutherford left England for Newfoundland to become general merchants. Robert and I.S. Rutherford settled in St. John's, while George and Andrew decided on Harbour Grace. Shortly thereafter, they released tokens featuring the Rutherford Family's Coat of Arms on one side, and the image of a hanging dead sheep on the other.
NF-1C1 Variety: The sheep has long hooves, and fine wool, with rosettes separating NEWFOUNDLAND from RUTHERFORD BROS, and has a medallic die axis.
