1970 Shell Oil "Man in Flight" Complete Series of Collectable Coins (Issues)
The 1969 Moon landing put the technical history of flight at the front of minds everywhere. Inspired by that historic event, Shell gas stations began the "Man in Flight" commemorative coin program. With each visit to a Shell station, you would receive a random coin featuring one of the highlights of flight history: starting with the ancient Greek myth of Daedalus and ending with the first steps on the Moon. The coins were to be matched to a cardboard display board, creating a timeline that covered Leonardo da Vinci, Charles Lindbergh, Auguste Piccard, Yuri Gagarin, and more.
This board collects the complete set of Shell "Man in Flight" coins. Please note, it has been well-loved: the board is discoloured and somewhat warped and the coins show moderate corrosion.
