Replacing the 1927 Old Parliament House, New Parliament House opened on May 9, 1988. The building houses the Parliament of Australia, the Cabinet, and the offices of the Prime Minister and other federal ministers.

Issued in 1988, this special edition $5 coin is crafted from aluminium bronze. The reverse features a detailed engraving of the New Parliament House. The coin is encapsulated and contained in a felt-lined clamshell case with Royal Australian Mint branding. Original outer box and COA are included.
