LC-60-9 1820 Lower Canada Bust & Harp Brass Token EF-AU (EF-45)
On Canadian order, a new half penny token was struck in Great Britain. Known as "Bust & Harp" tokens due to their design, these tokens became popular among the Irish immigrants within Lower Canada. Soon after, these tokens were imitated in brass, and widely circulated throughout Lower Canada.
Obverse: Laureate and cuirassed bust of George IV facing left.
Reverse: A harp that incorporated the body of a winged female facing left, with the date below.
LC-60-9 Variety: On the obverse, the lower curiass is well defined, the bust is small, there are two locks of hair pointed upwards, and four large ruffles of shirt frill. On the reverse, the top of the harp has a double lobe, with the left being longer, the foot of the harp is above the "2" of 1820, there are ten strings, and four strings are attached to the first part of the wing.
