c.1970s Cardiff Castle Medallion in Case (Issues)
A series of these souvenir, nickel medallions was produced by the Tower Mint in the 1970s and 80s, each featuring one of Britain's most famous castles: Dover, Conway, Windsor, and more. This one depicts Cardiff Castle, which sits on top of a Roman fort in the middle of what is now Cardiff, Wales. The medieval castle was comissioned by the Normans in the 11th century, and Victorians later expanded and renovated it into the Gothic Revival manor seen today. This coin depicts Cardiff Castle on the obverse, and the Cardiff Coat of Arms on the reverse.
Please note, while in generally good shape, the medallion shows some scuffs, scratches, and fingerprints and the lining of the case has begun to yellow. See images for details.
