1995 marked the hundredth anniversary of the discovery of X-rays. In 1895, German physicist Wilhelm Von Roentgen (or Röntgen) detected X-rays for the first time, revolutionizing science and medicine forever. Originally, the "X" was a placeholder for an unknown variable and was meant to be a temporary name!
This one-ounce silver round features a portrait of Roentgen on the obverse, and an early X-ray machine on the reverse with an image of a hand. The coin comes in a sturdy plastic capsule which shows some minor scratches and scuffs.
