South Africa 1983 15th Anniversary of the Krugerrand .999 Fine Silver Round (No Tax) scratched capsule

First minted in 1967, the Krugerrand is an investment coin intended to make gold buying accessible to ordinary people. For many years, the Krugerrand was the go-to choice for investors, but it fell out of favour in the 1980s as many Westerners began boycotting the apartheid government of South Africa. Unlike most gold bullion coins, the Krugerrand contains just over 8% copper, making it slightly heavier than a troy ounce, but slightly more durable than pure gold.

This one-ounce .999 silver round recreates the iconic design of the Krugerrand, with the four-time South African president Paul Kruger on the obverse. The reverse features the springbok, the national animal of South Africa. The coin comes in a sturdy plastic capsule, which shows some minor scratches and scuffs.
