2009 Canada 100th Anniversary of Flight Proof Sterling Silver Dollar ICCS Certified MS67
In 1909, the Aerial Experiment Association (AEA) headed by inventor and scientist Alexander Graham Bell, successfully launched the Silver Dart in Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Though the Dart had performed successfully in New York, the Nova Scotia flight would be Canada's first controlled powered flight ever -- a major landmark. Canada would go on to become a leader in aviation technology, buildng some of the best bombers of the Second World War and creating the Avro Arrow in 1958, one of the most advanced aircraft of its day.
This beautiful, sterling silver coin commemorates the 100th anniversary of the Silver Dart's flight over Nova Scotia. The reverse design shows a child running with their arms out while, in the background, the Silver Dart, Avro Arrow, and 431 Bomber Squadron (now the Snowbirds) create a formation that cleverly forms the outline of a maple leaf.
This coin has been certified by ICCS and assigned a grade of MS67.
