Toronto, ON, Shekinah R.A. Chapter No. 138 Masonic Penny
This masonic penny features the Star of David on the obverse, with the Masonic logo in the centre. The reverse displays the Masonic keystone -- a symbol of completion and stability -- over a spade, stake, and pickaxe in a wreath of leaves. The text inside the keystone reads "HTWSSTKS," which stands for "Hiram, Tyrian, Widow's Son, Sent to King Solomon." This refers to Hiram, the architect of King Solomon's Temple. According to Masonic legend, Hiram is beset by villains who demand Masonic secrets from him. Hiram refuses his attackers and is murdered. It's a story meant to inspire loyalty -- and its inclusion in Masonic imagery identifies a Royal Arch Mason who reached, at least, the third degree.
The Shekinah Chapter No. 138 serves the York/Toronto region and holds meetings at the West Toronto Masonic Temple.
