Widely known as one of the world's most famous and distinctive buildings, the rising and falling, swooping arches of the white Sydney Opera House, located on Sydney Harbour, are a feat of modern expressionist architecture. Built from 1959-1973, at the tail end of the modern movement of architecture leading into postmodernism (whose influences can be seen in the building), the Opera House led to some controversy when being built. Eventually, it got completed and became what we know today.

The reverse of this coin features the Sydney Opera House, right against the Sydney Harbour, with a cruise ship trolling in front and various world city buildings forming a wreath around it.
