Established at the convergence of five main roads, Kensington was originally named Five Lanes End. It was incorporated as a town in 1914, when it was connected to the Prince Edward Island Railway, and was renamed after Kensington Palace in London, England. This token, released to celebrate Kensington's 75th anniversary, features an engraving of its railway station on the reverse.
