1967 Province of Ontario Commemorative Centennial Nickel Medal
On July 1 1867, the British colony of the Province of Canada ceased to exist. Canadian Confederation founded the new Dominion of Canada, and the province was split into two along cultural and language lines, becoming Quebec and Ontario. This nickel medal, minted to honour one hundred years since Confederation, celebrates the creation of Ontario with sunshine beaming over a city skyline on the obverse. On the reverse, a map of Ontario sees light radiating out from Toronto, Ontario's capital. The lettering reads: UPPER CANADA JOINED CONFEDERATION IN 1867 AND BECAME THE PROVINCE OF ONTARIO.
