Susan B. Anthony dollars were minted from 1979 to 1981, when production ceased due to poor public acceptance. It was intended as a replacement for the large Eisenhower dollar, but the size and colour made it easy to mix up with the quarter, and so it was quickly retired. A new, gold-coloured dollar featuring Sacagawea was introduced instead.
