DC-24c 1923 Dominion 25 cent Shinplaster McCavour-Saunders, G-VG (G6)
For the 1923 issue, the 25-cent Shinplasters were considerably altered from the 1900 issue. The seated Britannia was replaced by a head and torso vignette located in the centre of the note, with a large brown 25 counter at the left, and Department of Finance seal at the right. The backs remained unchanged. On the first variety of this issue, the words "AUTHORIZED BY R.S.C. CAP. 31" are found above the left-hand signature space. These were issued despite an earlier decision by the Finance Department not to include this inscription. On the second and subsequent varieties, the words indicating the authorizing legislation were omitted. On the final variety, the notes were printed without signatures, as a result of the J.C. Saunders signature having been deleted from the plates. Both the Campbell and Clark signatures were added by the Finance Department.
Specifications:
Charlton Code: DC-24c
Face Design: In centre, Britannia holding a trident
Back design: Lathework and counters.
Signature: Left: S.P. McCavour; Right: J.C. Saunders
Variety: No Authorized
