BC-11 1935 Canada $25 Osborne-Towers, English, Check Letter A, BCS Certified F15 (tear)

When the Bank of Canada opened for business on March 11, 1935, it issued its own notes in denominations of $1, $2, $5, $10, $20, $25, $50, $100, $500, and $1000. The notes were of the small 6 x 2 7/8 inch format, which resulted in a saving of both banknote paper and ink. This Bank of Canada issue consisted of separate unilingual English and French notes. Most of the French notes were sent to the Bank of Canada agency in Montreal for distribution, although most of the other agencies received a small amount as well.

The $25 is a very unusual denomination, and this was the only time that the Bank of Canada issued one for general circulation. It was issued to commemorate the Silver Jubilee of King George V, who's image, along with his Queen, Mary of Teck, is featured in full Royal regalia on the note. This note is highly desirable to collectors due to its rarity, even in lower grades.
