Between 1812 and 1813, Thomas Halliday struck an extensive series of anonymous English tokens, that were of good weight, and designed by Halliday himself, who also cut the dies. They saw extensive use in England until 1817, when copper tokens were ordered to be withdrawn from circulation and shipped to Canada to circulated here.
Obverse: Laureate and draped bust of George III facing right, with the mintmark H on the truncation, all within a wreath of oak. There are four leaves in the crown, and a four pearls on the shoulder brooch.
Reverse: Commerce seated facing left on a bale, scales in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left, with a ship in the distance. Cannonballs touch the bale, and the mintmark H is on the ground at the right.
