WE-11B1 Wellington Cuidad Rodrigo Salamanca Token ICCS Certified VF20 BR #986
These tokens, called Peninsular Tokens, were struck for use by Wellington's Army in Portugal and Spain, and commemorate Wellington's victory at Salamanca over Napoleon's troops. In 1814, specimens of the token were brought to Canada by troops who had arrived to fight in the War of 1812.
Obverse: Laureate portrait of Wellington facing left, with the legend around.
Reverse: The names in text of famous battles won by Wellinton against Napoleon.
11B1 Variety: The laurel crown has ten leaves, and there are two locks of hair at the hairline.
