LC-54D2 1815 Lower Canada Spread Eagle Half Penny Bank Token Fine (F-12)

As the War of 1812 was still at it's height when this token was produced, it was not well received within the Canadian colonies, as the eagle is more commonly associated with the United States. Nevertheless, they began making an appearance again in 1825 as imitations, which were lighter in weight, and cruder in design. These tokens were likely struck in the United States.

Obverse: Britannia seated facing left holding a branch in her right hand and a trident in her left, with a shield bearing the Union flag at her side, and surrounded by a wreath of oak leaves.
Reverse: A small eagle with wings spread looking right, holding a branch in its right talons and arrows in its left talons, with the denomination above, and the date below.

LC-54D2 Variety: The wreath is orientated clockwise.
