LC-48-22 1812 Lower Canada Tiffin Token F-VF (F15)

Around 1832, Joseph Tiffin, a Montreal grocer, imported a quantity of lightweight halfpenny copper tokens from England. These were copies of an anonymous English halfpenny struck in 1812 from dies cut by Thomas Halliday. Eventually, the banks refused to accept any of these lightweight tokens as currency and accepted them only for their scrap metal value.

Obverse: Bust of George III facing right, within a wreath of acorns and oak leaves.
Reverse: Commerce seated on a bale facing left, holding scales in her right hand and a cornucopia in her left, with a ship sailing in the background, the denomination above, and the date below.

LC-48-22 Variety:
Obverse: The wreath is in a counter-clockwise direction. Within the wreath, the acorns and oak leaves are alternating above the head. Hair appears on the neck. The laurel crown is tied with a long double bow. A star-shaped button fastens the drapery. 
Reverse: The legend reads "HALFPENNY TOKEN 1812". The left hand doesn't rest on the bale. The top of the head is very close to the "Y". The chignon is closer to the foot of the "Y" on the right. The scales are a medium size. There are three daisies in the cornucopia.
