Vintage Ayton, ON, V. Damm General Merchant Dollar Trade Token
Valentine Damm operated a General Store in Ayton, Ontario, in the early part of the 20th century. On April 6, 1939, a fire started from live ashes in Damm's warehouse. The resulting blaze consumed said warehouse, his store, his house, and most of Ayton's main street. Today, a new general store -- Granny's -- stands on the same spot.
This merchant dollar was good for $1 worth of goods at Damm's store in the years before it burned down.
