1981 Canada Carnaval de Quebec Bonhomme Souvenir Token (Notre Dame)

Held intermittently since 1894, the Québec Winter Carnival (better known in both English and French as Carnaval) is an annual festival held in Québec City each year before Lent. Events include outdoor winter sports, a snow sculpture contest, public banquets, dance parties, and a masquerade ball at the historic Château Frontenac. Since 1955, the mascot of Carnaval has been Bonhomme Carnaval, a cheerful snowman dressed in a hat and a ceinture fléchée, a sort of woven sash that is traditional to Québécois and Métis communities.

This souvenir token from the 1985 Carnaval features Bonhomme waving cheerfully on the reverse. The obverse displays the Québec City logo and the Basilique-cathédrale Notre-Dame de Québec, Canada's oldest church.
