Australia 1927 Parliament House Florin AU-UNC (AU-55)
This coin was struck to commemorate the opening of Parliament House in Canberra (now known as Old Parliament House) in 1927, with 2,000,000 pieces issued on May 9 of that year. Its release generated significant public interest, with contemporary reports noting long queues outside banks in major cities, particularly in Canberra, Melbourne, and Sydney, as people eagerly sought to obtain an example. Popular as a souvenir of the occasion, many were kept aside rather than spent, and as a result the 1927 Parliament Florin remains one of the most commonly encountered pre-decimal coins in high grades.
