2010 Canadian Navy Centennial Proof Sterling Silver Dollar ICCS Certified MS67 UHC
The Naval Service Act was passed on May 4, 1910, officially creating the Royal Canadian Navy. It was the Second World War that really developed it as a fighting force, with over 120 corvettes built to be guardians of the North Atlantic. In this period, the Royal Canadian Navy was actually the third largest navy in the world.
HMCS Sackville, pictured on the reverse of this coin, was one of these Flower Class corvettes. Built in St. John, she entered service in 1941 and gained recognition for engaging U-boats at sea. Today, the Sackville is the last survivine corvette, and she serves in her retirement as the Canadian Naval Memorial, a living museum dedicated to the Canadian Navy.
This beautiful sterling silver coin has been certified by ICCS and assigned a grade of MS67.
