1993 USA Thomas Jefferson 250th Anniversary .900 Proof Silver Dollar (light wear)

Thomas Jefferson (1743-1826) was a key Founding Father of the United States who served as its first Secretary of State, second vice president, and third president. He wrote the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which explained why the colonies broke from Britain, and revised the laws of Virginia to match revolutionary ideas, such as the end of primogeniture inheritance and supporting religious freedom. Despite his Enlightenment ideals and contributions to American independence, Jefferson's legacy today is somewhat mixed. He denounced the slave trade as a uniquely British evil, but ultimately opposed freeing enslaved people in America on the grounds of Southern rights and unity. He himself was the owner of over six hundred enslaved people, who laboured at his Virginia plantation, Monticello.

This 1993 collectible coin is crafted from 90% silver and celebrates Jefferson's 250th birthday. The obverse features a left-facing bust of the president in a distinctly Classical style, and identifies him as the "Architect of Democracy." The reverse depicts his mixed-crop Virginia plantation, Monticello. The coin comes in its original United States Mint packaging with COA.

Please note, some light wear may be evident on this item, such as minor scractches and scuffs on the case or capsule.
