Pair of Singapore 1975 & 1977 $10 .500 Silver Coins, 2pcs

This pair of silver coins celebrates the history and culture of Singapore! In 1819, the British East India Company established a trading post in Singapore. Within five years, control of the island had shifted from the Dutch-controlled state of Johor to the British Empire, which first folded it into the Straits Settlements, and then into British India. Singapore remained a British naval base and trading centre until 1963 -- with the brief but important exception of its seizure by Japan during the devastating 1942 Battle of Singapore -- when it separated from Britain to join the Federation of Malaysia. A period of intense political and racial strife followed, culminating in Singapore's ejection from Malaysia. Suddenly, in 1965, Singapore found itself a newly independent country.

These $10 coins, comprised of 50% silver, celebrate the 10th anniversary of Singapore's independence, and the 10th anniversary of ASEAN (the Association of Southeast Asian Nations) respectively.
