Founded in 1915 in Detroit, Michigan, Kiwanis International is a global organization of volunteers dedicated to bettering communities. In the 1920s, they claimed the word "Kiwanis" meant "We Build" in Ojibwe; this, whatever its accuracy, was the Kiwanis motto for over eighty years.
