Located in Northern Alberta, Whitecourt perches on the confluence of four waterways: the Athabasca River, McLeod River, Sakwatamau River, and Beaver Creek. This, unsurprisingly, has made it an industrial hub since the earliest colonial days. The Hudson's Bay Company had a trading post there, followed by a railway town.
1984 marked the 25th anniversary of Whitecourt's official incorporation. This commemorative dollar features Whitecourt's Coat of Arms on the reverse, and a tribute to Whitecourt's resource industries on the obverse.
