Before the unification of Italy in 1861, the Kingdom of Two Sicilies, which included Naples, was the largest and most populous state in the Italian peninsula. The state had originally emerged in 1816, when the Kingdom of Sicily joined with the Kingdom of Naples (which was, confusingly, also officially called the Kingdom of Sicily), and Naples became its capital starting the following year. This hefty 10 tornesi coin features the portrait of Francesco (Francis) I, who ruled the Two Sicilies from 1825 to 1830.
