1980 Kitchener-Waterloo Silver Oktoberfest Trade Dollar .999 Silver (No Tax)
Gemütlichkeit!
First held in 1967, Oktoberfest was established to honour Kitchener-Waterloo's German heritage. It has since grown into North America's largest Bavarian festival, drawing tourists with its offering of German foods, beverages, performances, and activities. Based on the Munich festival of the same name, one of Oktoberfest's most famous mottos is "gemütlichkeit!" -- a phrase that, while having no direct English translation, conjures warmth, friendliness, and cozy atmosphere.
This 99.9% silver Oktoberfest Dollar was issued during the 1980 Oktoberfest season. It features beloved Oktoberfest mascots Onkel Hans and Tante Frieda on the obverse, and a depiction of the Kitchener performing arts venue, Centre in the Square, on the reverse.
