1964 Ajax, ON, Industrial Commission Copper Token (Toned)

The Ajax Industrial Commission was founded to promote industrial development in the town of Ajax, Ontario. Producing brochures, matchbooks, and other trinkets in the postwar era, the Commission worked to recruit businesses to locate factories in and around Ajax. Tokens from the 1960s were one of their most popular items, circulating at the Canadian National Exhibition and other events. The obverse features a stylized Greek helmet (perhaps referencing the mythological hero also named Ajax), whilst the reverse features an outline of Lake Ontario, with several important cities marked.
