Hungary 1696CH Leopold I 3 Krajczar Almost Uncirculated (AU50)

Leopold I, Holy Roman Emperor (1640–1705) was a long-reigning emperor of the Holy Roman Empire and a central figure in late 17th-century European politics, known for his conflicts with both France and the Ottoman Empire. A member of the House of Habsburg, his reign also reflects the dynasty’s long-standing practice of close intermarriage to preserve power. This is particularly evident in his marriage to Margaret Theresa of Spain, who was both his niece and first cousin, illustrating the extreme degree of familial overlap common in Habsburg unions. Such repeated consanguineous marriages across generations are well documented and contributed to the hereditary health issues that became especially pronounced in the Spanish branch of the family. A resulting deformity such as what became known as the "Hapsburg Chin" can be seen on coins issued during Leopold I's reign.

Obverse: Laureate bust of Leopold I with a long curly wig facing right, with the denomination within a frame below, and the legend around.
Reverse: A glorified and crowned radiant Madonna with a child on her left arm seated on a crescent divides the mintmark, with the crowned twofold Hungarian shield below, the date divided above, and the legend around.
