Austria 1689 Salzburg 15 Kreuzers Almost Uncirculated (AU50)
Johann Ernst Graf von Thun und Hohenstein (1643–1709) was Prince-Archbishop of Salzburg from 1687 until his death, ruling both as a senior churchman and a temporal prince within the Holy Roman Empire. His tenure is closely associated with the flourishing of Baroque art and architecture in Salzburg, as he supported major building projects and cultural patronage that helped shape the city’s distinctive character. A firm supporter of the Catholic Counter-Reformation, he worked to strengthen religious institutions and consolidate ecclesiastical authority within his territories, leaving a lasting imprint on Salzburg’s political, religious, and artistic landscape.
