Ancient Roman Republic 90 BC Rev. Apollo C. Vibius C.F. Pansa Silver Denarius Very Fine (VF20)

Gaius Vibius Pansa Caetronianus was a Roman statesman and consul in 43 BC during the final years of the Roman Republic. A supporter of the senatorial faction opposed to Julius Caesar’s legacy, he aligned himself with Marcus Tullius Cicero and the Senate in resistance to the growing power of Mark Antony. Pansa played a key role in the events of the Mutina Campaign against Antony’s forces. However, after being wounded at the Battle of Forum Gallorum, he died shortly afterward in 43 BC. His death, along with that of his co-consul Aulus Hirtius, left a power vacuum that contributed to the rise of the Second Triumvirate and the eventual end of the Roman Republic.
