Ancient Arabia 1st Century Himyarites Silver Drachm Extra Fine (EF40)
The Himyarite Kingdom was a powerful state in southern Arabia during the 1st century AD, centered in what is now Yemen. Building on earlier South Arabian traditions, the Himyarites consolidated control over key trade routes linking the Mediterranean world with India and East Africa, particularly through the lucrative incense and spice trade. Their rulers, often titled “Kings of Saba and Dhu Raydan,” expanded influence over neighboring regions and rival kingdoms such as Saba. This period saw increasing political centralization and economic prosperity, laying the groundwork for Himyar’s later dominance in southern Arabia.
