Ancient Rome 152-153AD Faustina Minor, Concordia Silver Denarius VF-EF (VF30)

Annia Galeria Faustina the Younger was Roman Empress from 161 until her death in 175/176, as the wife of her cousin, Marcus Aurelius. She was the youngest daughter of Antoninus Pius and Faustina the Elder, and was granted the title Augusta in 147 following the birth of her first child—well before her husband’s accession. Known for accompanying Marcus Aurelius on military campaigns, she was honored with the title Mater Castrorum (“Mother of the Camp”). Later sources accuse her of involvement in the revolt of Avidius Cassius in 175, though this claim remains uncertain. After her death, she was deified; her statue was placed in the Temple of Venus in Rome, and a temple was dedicated to her memory.

Obverse: Draped bust of Faustina the Younger facing left, her hair arranged in waves and coiled into a bun on the back of her head, with the legend around.
Reverse: Concordia seated facing left, holding a flower, and resting her left elbow on a cornucopia set on a globe below the seat.
