Ancient Rome 37-38 AD Germanicus Copper AS VF-EF (VF30)

Caligula, born Gaius Julius Caesar Augustus Germanicus, ruled the Roman Empire from 37 to 41 CE and is remembered as one of its most controversial emperors. Initially welcomed for ending the harsh rule of Tiberius, his reign soon became marked by erratic behavior, extravagant spending, and strained relations with the Senate. Ancient sources describe acts of cruelty and excess, though some accounts may be exaggerated by hostile historians. His rule came to a violent end when he was assassinated by members of his own guard, who then sought out and murdered his wife Caesonia, and their young daughter, Julia Drusilla, but were unable to reach Caligula's uncle, Claudius.

Obverse: The bare head of Germanicus facing left, with the legend around.
Reverse: S C in centre, with legend around.
