That wondrous range is captured on the 2026 Ultra High Relief (UHR) Gold Maple Leaf (GML) coin, where Walter Ott’s classic maple leaf has been rendered in Ultra High Relief, polished to a high shine, and finished with our innovative new Vivid Toning Effect—a Mint first that produces intense colours with a foil-like finish. On this 99.99% pure gold coin, the colours tilt more toward a radiant crimson. The luminous effect is further amplified by a new maple-themed field pattern that is bursting with rays of light, reflecting endless pride in Canada’s autumnal elegance.
A dual-tech design: UHR with Vivid Toning Effect!
Fiery reds are produced in autumn, but the burnt oranges and golden yellows we associate with fall in Canada exist in maple leaves in spring and summer too—they’re hidden by chlorophyll, the green pigment essential for photosynthesis. As daylight decreases, chlorophyll breaks down, revealing yellow xanthophyll pigments and orange carotenoids, while newly produced anthocyanins are responsible for red tones. Of course, environmental factors influence the process, so colour vibrancy will vary from year to year.

New for 2026, Vivid Toning Effect is a first for us—it’s an innovative way of achieving realistic (and quintessentially Canadian) colours with a distinctive foil-like finish. On your coin’s reverse, light passes through the vibrant orange and red hues, catching the polished relief underneath and reflecting back outward to create an iridescent, lit-from-within glow.
New luminous field pattern
The maple-themed field pattern is bursting with rays of light that amplify both the coin’s golden gleam and the leaf’s vivid colours, resulting in a striking design that seemingly radiates energy from within.
The coin’s reverse features Walter Ott’s Gold Maple Leaf (GML) bullion design, struck in Ultra High Relief and enhanced with Vivid Toning Effect, resulting in realistic fall colours (red, orange) with a foil-like finish. Behind the leaf, the laser-engraved field pattern consists of smaller maple leaves stacked vertically between sunburst lines that radiate luminous energy. The words “CANADA”, “PURE GOLD 1 OZ OR PUR” and the purity standard of “9999” are also engraved on the reverse. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
