The Canada jay has a habit of hoarding food, using its saliva to stick small items to tree branches high above the (eventual) snow line for later use. Its fluffy plumage comes in handy in winter, when it puffs up its feathers to cover its feet and keep warm on cold days.

The reverse design by Canadian artist Tony Bianco features a pair of Canada jays (Perisoreus canadensis)—one rests on a white pine branch, while the other swoops in on the wing. Their grey-and-white plumage, along with the evergreen branches, stand out against the engraved winter landscape where a snow-covered path leads to a distant log cabin. The obverse features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III by Canadian artist Steven Rosati.
