These coins are among the first 2023-dated circulation coins struck at the Royal Canadian Mint’s Winnipeg facility, and this two dollar coin holds the distinction of being the first of its kind to feature the new Canadian effigy of His Majesty King Charles III.

In keeping with tradition, His Majesty King Charles III’s profile faces left on each coin’s obverse—this is the opposite direction in which the portrait of Queen Elizabeth II was depicted during her reign.

Introduced in 1996, Canada's bi-metallic two-dollar coin features the polar bear, an Arctic species that is a symbol of strength.
