The United States Mint American Innovation $1 Coin Program is a multi-year (2018-2029) series honoring innovation and innovators with $1 coins from each State, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam, American Samoa, U.S. Virgin Islands, and Northern Mariana Islands. The American Innovation $1 Coins are in uncirculated finishes and were minted at the Philadelphia and Denver Mints.
Being featured on the 2021 New Hampshire coin is Ralph Baer's brown box game "Handball" on the left side. Accompanying this image is "New Hampshire" and "Player 1" on the right side of the coin. Bordering this image is the following inscription: "IN HOME VIDEO GAME SYSTEM" and "RALPH BAER", which pays homage to Ralph Baer's Odyssey game. The design is reminiscent of an arcade token. In 1966, Baer began investigating how to play games on a television. His team developed the "Brown Box", a prototype for the first multi-player, multi-program video game system, which paved the way for all video game systems that followed. Baer is recognized as "The Father of Video Games."
The obverse design illustrates a dramatic representation of the Statue of Liberty in profile with the inscriptions "In God We Trust" and "$1". The obverse also includes a privy mark of a stylized gear, representing industry and innovation.
The edge-incused inscriptions include "2021," mint mark, and "E PLURIBUS UNUM."
