2016 Canada 100th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote Loon Dollar Gift Set

2016 Canada 100th Anniversary of Women's Right to Vote Loon Dollar Gift Set

2016 marked the 100th anniversary of women's suffrage in Canada. The first provinces to grant (most) women the right to vote were the prairies -- Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta -- in 1916, with Ontario and British Columbia following the next year. Still, it was an uphill battle; women weren't even legally considered "persons" until 1929; Quebec denied women voting rights until 1940; Asian Canadians were denied until 1948; and First Nations were specifically and repeatedly excluded until 1960. Still, it was a first step, and, to celebrate, the Royal Canadian Mint issued this beautifully crafted $1 coin depicting a woman proudly casting a ballot, while her daughter, who represents the future, looks on.

This elegant gift set includes one special edition loon dollar in a tasteful and informational folder.
