Small Beads (Type 2) Variety: In order to increase the die life for the nickel 50-cent planchets, the design was altered by decreasing the relief needed to create the Queen's image. Thus, the modified die has smaller beads along the rim, and the Queen's hair has a lower relief.
Obverse: Diademed bust of Elizabeth II at age 37, facing right, with the legend around.
Reverse: The updated Royal Coat of Arms of Canada, with the country name to the left, denomination to the right, and a crown dividing the date.
