1973 Canada 25-cents Proof Like

The special reverse of the 1973 25-cent piece commemorates the centennial of the founding of the North West Mounted Police, later known as the Royal Canadian Mounted Police. For use with this issue, a new obverse with a smaller, more detailed portrait and fewer rim beads placed farther from the rim was created, however, a small quantity of coins were struck with the 1972 obverse, creating two varieties for the year; the Large Bust and Small Bust. It is believed that the Large Bust variety struck for circulation does not exceed 10,000.
