To celebrate the centennial of Canadian Confederation, a reverse design of a Mackerel was chosen for the 10-cent coin. During that year, the rising cost of silver forced a reduction in the silver content from 0.800 to 0.500. The two varieties are not distinguishable by appearance.
Obverse: Diademed bust of Elizabeth II at 37 years old facing right, with the legend around.
Reverse: A mackerel, with the denomination above, and CANADA 1867-1967 below.
