1927 USA Cent Choice Brilliant Uncirculated (MS-64)
The USA Cent Lincoln Cent was conceptualized by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1904, as he wrote to Secretary of the Treasury Leslie Mortier Shaw that U.S coinage lacked artistic merit and inquired if it was possible to hire a private artist to prepare a new design. Designer Victor D. Brenner was chosen to create the latest design, after numerous modifications to the design, such as the addition of the motto “In God We Trust.” Secretary of the Treasury Franklin MacVeagh formally approved the coin on July 14, 1909, and the release date of August 2, 1909, was agreed upon. The coin was circulated in 1909 and was taken out of circulation in 1958, and was replaced by the Lincoln Memorial cent.
The 1927 USA Lincoln Cent was minted during the time of culturally significant events in USA history, such as the Food, Drug, and Insecticide Administration, commonly known as the FDA, being established and the first long-distance TV transmission from Washington D.C. to New York City.
