1920 Small Canada 1-cent Circulated (average condition, VG to Fine)

Beginning in 1920, Canada introduced the George V small cent, measuring 19.05 mm in diameter, to replace the previously used "large cent" that had been in use since 1858. There were several reasons for this change, such as rising production costs, the rising cost of copper, public inconvenience, among other things. By reducing the size and weight, Canada could cut down on metal usage and minting costs while still keeping the coin in circulation. This smaller cent became more popular with the public, and set the standard for Canadian cents right up until the denomination was discontinued.
