According to the Chinese Zodiac, the year 2014 is ruled by the Horse. This coin celebrates the unique heritage and ancient culture of Chinese Canadians.

The Year of the Horse also ruled 1906, 1918, 1930, 1942, 1954, 1966, 1978, 1990 and 2002.

Canadian artist Aries Cheung has created a reverse design that captures the essence of the animal. The reverse features a galloping horse and the Chinese symbol for horse, the word 'CANADA,' the date '2014' and the face value of '15 DOLLARS.' The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by artist Susanna Blunt.
