Bohemia 1706MM 3 Kreuzer Extra Fine (EF40)
In the 18th century, Bohemia was a crown land of the Habsburg Monarchy and played an important role within the Austrian Empire. After the devastation of the Thirty Years’ War in the previous century, the region experienced gradual recovery and deeper integration into Habsburg rule, with German increasingly replacing Czech in administration and high culture. Bohemia became a center of industry and trade, particularly in glassmaking and textiles, while also contributing to the empire’s intellectual and artistic life during the Enlightenment. However, the century also saw growing social and national tensions, as Czech identity began to fade among the nobility but endured strongly among the common people, laying the groundwork for the later Czech National Revival.
Obverse: Bust of Josef I wearing a long wig facing left, within a braided circle, with the legend around and the denomination in a circle below.
Reverse: Crowned Imperial eagle with a sword and scepter and Bohemian arms on the breast, with a crown dividing the date above, and the mint mark below within the legend within a frame.
