Great Britain 1724 George I 1/2 Penny VG-F (VG-10)

George I of England (1660–1727) reigned from 1714 to 1727, becoming the first monarch of the House of Hanover in Britain. His accession followed the Act of Settlement (1701), which ensured a Protestant succession and bypassed closer Catholic claimants. Speaking little English and more comfortable in German, George relied heavily on ministers, helping to strengthen the role of the prime minister and cabinet in British government. His reign saw the consolidation of the Hanoverian dynasty, the suppression of the Jacobite uprisings, and the growth of Britain’s political and commercial power, laying the foundation for the country’s 18th-century expansion.

Obverse: Laureate and cuirassed portrait of King George I facing right, with the legend around.
Reverse: The seated figure of Britannia facing left, with the trident in her left hand, an olive branch in right, a shield with the Union flag resting on her left side, with the legend around and date below.
