Ancient Rome 27BC-14AD Augustus Silver Denarius Very Fine (VF-20)

Augustus, born Gaius Octavius Thurinus in 63 BCE, was the first Roman emperor and a pivotal figure in Roman history. He rose to power following the assassination of his great-uncle, Julius Caesar, and the subsequent civil wars. In 27 BCE, he was granted the title "Augustus" by the Roman Senate, marking the beginning of the Roman Empire. Augustus implemented a series of reforms that stabilized the economy, improved governance, and established a lasting peace known as the Pax Romana, which allowed trade and culture to flourish across the empire. He also reformed the military, creating a standing army loyal to the emperor rather than to individual generals. Augustus’s reign, which lasted until his death in 14 CE, set the foundation for the Roman Empire's future expansion and influence, and his legacy as a skilled statesman and administrator continues to be recognized in history.
